Separation or divorce and your pension
Learn how a separation or divorce affects your pension and review the issues to consider.
Not dividing your pension
You and your former spouse might agree that you can keep your entire pension in exchange for another family asset.
In this case, you may need to know the value of your pension to negotiate a settlement with your former spouse. The value of your pension is calculated using a formula based on your years of service and your salary. You can find a current estimate of the value of your pension on your Member's benefit statement or by signing in to My Account. If you have not yet retired, you can also hire an independent actuary to calculate the value of your pension using information we can provide.
